Dear Harry,
While reading “A Fable for the Living”, a story about a town who writes letter to their deceased loved ones with the focus of a woman mourning her fiance , I thought about my continuing hold on the relationship I had with you.
This fable has prompt me to write a letter of goodbye. The journey and adventure we started in 2000 and lasted 15 years. I have prolonged this relationship purposely knowing that it should have ended in 2007 when everyone else let you go. I have watched you grow from a boy to a young man and I myself have grown as well. I do not regret taking so long to let you go because looking at you now, I know that I would not have looked at you the same 8 years ago. I am older and wiser now and I look at the world differently. If I have ended this relationship in 2007, I would have been angry and felt alone. I don’t feel that way anymore because you’ve taught me how to be brave and you have shown me unconditional love. I was sad for a while when considering to end our relationship and I know that some sad moments will return when the memories of our time together resurfaces. I know that you and I are going to be okay as we continue our journeys because we both understand how to love and love conquers all.
Sincerely,
Janelle Rodriguez
